If not for hope…

“If it were not for hope, the heart would break.” -Thomas Fuller

I think that hope is a strong survival skill. I think that sometimes in desperation that any kind of hope will do- but only for so long. If we hope in the wrong things or the wrong person, the end result is discouragement. If our hope is in God, our soul is on solid ground.

Speaking of the hope we have through Christ- “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19 I like this picture. As one who at times has felt like my heart was being tossed in the rough seas of life, I like the imagery of an anchor for my soul. It is firm and secure in Christ. Thank You Jesus!

following the crowd

“The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been.”

-Alan Ashley-Pitt

I liken this to a personal individual, intimate relationship with God vs. being spoon fed at church and not searching a matter out on your own.  God is personally interested in you.  Shouldn’t  you as His child be personally interested in Him?  Some, honestly are not that comfortable with getting close to God, seeking Him, listening for Him to speak and following Him.  You can still be His child and have that be the case.  It is unlikely however, that you will be His confidante.

Exodus 33:11, “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with His friend.”

Lord, I pray that I would be one You consider a faithful friend.  I want to be one You can trust and confide in.  I want to know Your heart.  I pray that more and more You will speak with me as a friend.  I love You Lord.

Never walk backwards

“I am a slow walker, but I never walk backwards.” Abraham Lincoln

Where are you headed?  Are You looking in the right direction?  If our eyes are on Jesus, we will stay the course.  If He is Your Lord and Saviour and you desire to please Him, you are in a perfect position for Him to direct your life.  It doesn’t matter what your life looks like right now, He is able to orchestrate new beginnings every day.  Follow Him.  Keep pressing on.  Don’t look back, don’t give up.  Never walk backwards.

Hebrews 12:2,3  “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of  our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You that You give me all of the strength and endurance I need to follow You and not turn back or give up.  Thank You Lord for being my strength this day, and all of the days of my life.  In Jesus name, I pray.  Amen.

Wanderers

“Not all who wander are lost”. J.R.R. Tolkien

God has a HUGE plan for His people. He has a HUGE plan for YOU! He wants to draw others into His Kingdom through you. As He had for Israel, so He has a plan for you. It is no small thing.

“It is too small a thing for you to be My servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light to the Gentiles, that you may bring My salvation to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6

Dear Heavenly Father, I say yes to Your Divine plan.  I want to live as a light for others to see there way to You. I want to be a vessel You can use to bring restoration to the broken and bring Your saving grace into the lives of those You send me to.  In Jesus name, I pray.  Amen.

The artist’s brush

“Every artist dips his brush into his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pieces.”

-Henry Ward Beecher

In Jesus prayer for His followers while He was yet on Earth, He said, “I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and You in Me.” John 17:22,3. In art, in writing, in song, in creating …it is my conviction that Christ will be seen and glorified because He lives in and through His people. As we surrender our gifts to Him, it allows Him to refine them, preparing us and the gift for His glory and the edification of others.

Jesus, You alone are the Masterpiece of my soul and life. Use me and whatever gifts You have placed in me to bring You honor. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

How we spend our days

Published July 26, 2009 by imdaddysgirl

“How we spend our days is how we spend our lives.” -Anne Dillard

Psalm 31:14,15   “But I trust in You, Oh Lord;  I say, “You are my God.  My times are in Your hands”…

Time is limited.  We have 24 hours in a day.  No matter how you spend it, how active or inactive you are in the course of a day, it’s still 24 hours.  Whether you have saved someone’s life, slept the day away, robbed a bank or won a marathon, you still were given 24 hours today.  What if we trust God with our lives?  Shouldn’t He then be Lord of our time?  What if we were to look at minutes and hours as currency?  Would we change how we spent our time if we reminded ourselves that it is limited – on this Earth?

A few months ago, I lost a very dear loved one.  In  the past year, it has sensitized me to the fact that everyday is a gift.  Every phone call was special and even if it was for nothing special, it was good to just hear her voice.  None of the time we spent together was taken for granted.  The nice thing is that we haven’t lived in the same State for several years, so that really wasn’t something new.  We always have enjoyed and looked forward to seeing one another and knew we would have fun. Still, a fresh appreciation was added for what  we knew would be a finite opportunity to be together – for a little while anyway.  We both knew we would see one another in Heaven.

I don’t think God wants us to be morose in our consideration of time.  I think it’s good not to wonder if it will be the last time you see someone.  I don’t think that would necessarily be healthy.  But, even in our day to day living, doesn’t it honor God when we treat our time as a good steward?  Surely it pleases God as we invest in people and opportunities which enrich our lives, the lives around us, and God’s Kingdom.

Father, order my days.  I want to bring You honor in how I spend my time.  Help me to not be wasteful, nor to be overworked when You desire for me to rest.   I want to live a life which brings You glory and is filled with Kingdom priorities.  Be glorified in and through me, I pray today and in all my days in Jesus name.  Amen.
